About Adam Kellogg
I Built My Life Around My Faith, And Then . . .
I was a devout evangelical Christian. I was active in my church, I worked for a Christian organization, I even wrote Bible studies. I just had one problem: I never thought my faith was genuine enough. I always thought I was failing. For almost 40 years I felt that way until one night when I had just finished writing a monthlong study on How to Know Your Faith is Sure (ironically enough) and I said these words:
“I don’t believe any of this.” Inwardly, I felt a lifetime of anxiety and self-doubt melt away. But that anxiety was replaced by a new source of shame and stress, because I kept this new development to myself. I flat-out pretended for two years that nothing had changed. I could do that for only so long. My life reached a crossroads of turmoil and crisis. I couldn’t keep up the charade any longer. I had to address the fact that my faith had drastically changed, but I had no idea what to do, where to turn, or who to talk to.
Have you felt that way lately (or for a long time)? If you struggle with intense anxiety and confusion, I can relate. But I can also tell you with the utmost confidence that there is a way forward and upward.
After hitting my lowest point, I stopped focusing on what I had lost, and I began searching for hope.I spent years disassembling my previous belief system, studying dozens upon dozens of books, lectures, podcasts, and inspiring people to help rebuild my sense of faith using only the foundations and building blocks I truly believed in. My heart felt lighter, my emotions stabilized, and my confidence in who I was—who I genuinely was—changed the entire way I saw myself.
I finally got to the point where I was able to help others who had gone through similar struggles but who also wanted to find their own way forward. I knew I couldn’t be the only person who felt lost in a faith that wasn’t really their own. In time, an entire movement had started, and a lot of people began describing their path with the term deconstruction. I ultimately decided to dedicate my life to becoming a spirituality coach specializing in finding a path forward after deconstruction, conversion, or an overall crisis of faith.
All those years I spent struggling as a Christian desperate to believe authentically enough to be a REAL Christian, I would have done anything to have someone I could talk to who would simply listen and not condemn me or demand I “keep the faith” . . . or laugh at me for believing in God in the first place. And after I knew my faith had changed dramatically, I wish I had known someone who could help me think through the next steps without pushing me in any one direction. The moment I felt someone speaking to me with absolute confidence in spiritual truth was the moment I’d turn and run in the opposite direction. I wish I’d known someone who accepted me as I was in all my uncertainty.
I want to give you the listening ear, caring shoulder, and welcoming space to express and explore that I never had.
You can move forward with confidence and hope. You can restore your sense of identity. You can re-establish a firm understanding of what truth really is. You can learn how to trust again in yourself and in your footing as you seek out a dependable belief system. And you can regain a community where you fit in, belong, and serve meaningfully.
And you don’t have to feel miserable or guilty in the process. You can have peace about where you are right this minute, and you can have confidence about the direction you’re headed.
The way forward can be enjoyable, uplifting, and fulfilling . . . I know, because I’ve seen it happen! Peace, fulfillment, clarity, purpose, trust, community, and joy are within your grasp.
